2021 Newsletter Issue 17 - November 24
Principal's Report
Dear parents, staff, students and community members,
Welcome to our fabulous new newsletter. The decision for this was to streamline our communications and look to a more cost effective way of delivering news. You will all hopefully recieve a notification advising that you have a newsletter and are able to open this on your phone, tablet or computer.
Next week is our last week of school. We will produce a final newsletter next week to celebrate the successes of the school this year. Look out for this!
The last fortnight has been very focused on completing our assessment. Both classes have done very well with their work. We will have plenty of successes this year.
A focus for us this year has been reading with fluency. We have definitely seen a great improvement with this throughout the school. Our data is indicating that some students have seen a 25% or greater improvement in their prosidy. We will continue into 2022 with the same focus.
Don't forget that you will need to register for the NRL stars program next week. Here is the link you will need https://www.playrugbyleague.com/league-stars/
Next Thursday will be the last day for tuckshop as we will have our school party next Friday. Can you please ensure all orders are in by Wednesday night.
Our school party will be a share plate arrangement. Please bring a plate to share on Friday with all students. No nuts allowed.
Next Friday at 9am we will host our very first team triathlon. All students have been put in a team and will compete in their choosen leg. Swim, bike and run. The distances are different depending on the age group of the kids. All children will be walked to the pool to start the race. They will need hat and waterbottle.
FRIDAY 2nd DECEMBER - Free dress day!!!!
Happy fortnight everyone,
Trish
Principal
K-2 Class Update
Hello,
This last fortnight in the K-2 class, we have been finishing off our assessment and keeping the learning alive and full of energy! Aside from running assessment, the students have been doing lots of reading and activities to follow this reading. This week, in particular, students have read stories like “Shapes of Australia” by Bronwyn Bancroft, “Dream Little One, Dream” by Sally Morgan, and “The Echidna and the Shade Tree” a Dreaming story. These all led to activities the kids absolutely loved, keep an eye out in this newsletter and on Facebook for photos of the children throughout the week! They had opportunities to bake sweets, create animals, and write all about what they are learning. Some end of year testing will still be conducted in the coming days, but will be well and done by the end of the term. Keep an eye out for your child’s report card also, this will be sent home in Week Nine for parents to read over. Thank you to all parents and community members who continue to engage with and support the school to support the exciting and engaging learning and development of our children. This effort is greatly appreciated by myself and the staff here at Thargomindah State School!
Bye everyone,
Miss Tonscheck 😊
3-6 Class Update
In the upstairs class this fortnight we have been super busy creating a new business enterprise for Thargomindah tourism. I can say that I am super impressed with some of the ideas that these little enterpreneurs have had. We have station stays where they get to ride camels, tours out to the dig tree and back, an art gallery with art classes and a pigging competition. The students have been able to create a profit and loss statement to see if there business will be viable. A lot of time and effort has been put into their presentation and I am looking forward to their presentation to us.
We have also adapted a poem that would be relevant to their business. This was a lot of fun for the students.
Our year 6 students have had their first taste of high school this week with some transition sessions happening. A reminder to parents that the year 6 students need a speech ready for Monday night on their year as a leader and then a second speech for graduation night on their time in primary school.
Lastly, our students have done really well with their assessments. A few students missed assessment in term 3 due to illness and they have powered through that assessment as well early on in this term. I am very proud of how the students have worked.
Have a great week, Mrs L

Kindy and Prep Transition Week
This week sure has been a busy one for the early years class! We had two new additions to the Thargomindah State School crew for our Kindy Transition week and welcomed our one kindy student for the week as she transitions from kindy to prep next year. Lots and lots of age-appropriate learning occurring this week by engaging the students in a topic that is of interest to them followed by each child guiding the learning and activities with their preferences to enhance the learning! The best part was seeing how quickly Sophie and Mia gelled into the school environment and enjoyed playing with all the children at school. Some activities that took place this transition week was the baking and painting that our 2022 kindies did – some real talent coming in to the school here! Chloe was able to dive into some learning that occurs at the beginning of Prep by learning more about concepts of Literacy (reading, writing, understanding) and Numeracy. I am looking forward to next year and how much fun we are all going to have with more children joining the class!
